Zhenya Cerneacov was born in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. In 2006 Zhenya moved to Canada where he quickly became an active member of the contemporary dance scene broadening his horizons to include works in Contemporary, Bharatanatyam, Modern, Indigenous (Onkwehon:wen) Contemporary Dance, Contemporary Ballet and Argentine Tango performing with companies including Danny Grossman Dance Company, Corpus Dance Projects, Peggy Baker Dance Projects, Bouchardanse, Citadel + Compagnie, Menaka Thakkar Dance Company, Chimera Project, Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Kaeja d'Dance, among others.
Most recently Zhenya had the privilege to perform in a duet, Four Old Legs, with Evelyn Hart choreographed by James Kudelka. Zhenya is co-founder and co-choreographer for the "Throwdown Collective", The Collective’s site-specific trilogy, originally commissioned for Toronto's Dusk Dances Festival, went on to tour throughout Canada and beyond, including the 85th Anniversary Celebration of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, MA and Fall for Dance North at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. Their first full-length evening of stage works, presented by DanceWorks, received two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding Choreography and a total of eight nominations.
